St George Temple June 26, 1877
Dear Emma
I just received your letter of 21, who are from Bulah at the same time both of which are very
interesting to me Bulah gives me a histo[r]y of Brigham [Young Woodruff] since I left home his dream of
his Death and funeral all of which were very Striking I received a letter from Azmon about Brighams Death
which I answ[ered] I express my feelings in it about his death I ha[v]e had very Strange feelings about it I
am convinced in my own mind that his death was appointed unto him and that he has been preparing for
it with all his might for the last two years as much as though he knew his appointed time Their has been a
mystery upon my mind why certain persons have been Called into the Spirit [world] and others preserved
in life G A Smith for insta[n]ce and other that might be named My mind concerning Brigham is that as I am
doing a great Deal in the Temple for our family relatives on both My Fathers & Mothers side that it was
necessary for one of my Family to be in the Spirit world to work upon that side of the Veil. Brigham has
left as good a record as any man of his age in the Church And I have expressed myself in my letters
concerning it that there are many thi[n]gs to me worse than Death I would far rather any of my family
would be taken away and go into the spirit world if [?] to inherit Eternal Life and the Celestial Kingdom of
God, then to live Thi[e]ves, Liars ,drunkards Blasphemers and when th[ey] got through die and go to Hell.
Brigham is safe He has done all that he could do, has had his Endow[m]e[n]ts and what He has not done,
through the blessings of God I shall try to do for him. I feel to sympathize deeply with his Mother I wish I
Could be with her for a season I have written several Letters to Sarah sin[c]e his death, and I mail one to
day to her & to Phebe ^W^ & Bulah besides this one to you you speak of the poor health of Mrs W th[e]y
have not notified me of her health ownly that She had a turn of the Newralgie [neuralgia] I hope She will
not get down sick you was speaking about Owen being bit with sumth[in]g I awoke Sundy mo[rn]ing and
felt a tingling on my lip as though sumth[in]g had bit me, and in 10 minuts my lip was swolen an inch thick
one side of my face swelled up, so I could not go to Meeting and yesterdy the Hives came out all over me,
but I feel all right to day again, I will write to Arabel & Nellie as soon as I Can I am glad to hear as good
account of Arabel I want him [her?] to help Nellie what he can [abt? i.e. about?] the Haying Harvest and
