Nauvoo Temple stone
[ca. 1844]. Approx. 28 x 8 x 4.5". This piece of stone was tooled and worked by hand with a Vertical-Striation-Textured-Finish - fairly uniform vertical lines or grooves. The groove depth averaged no more than 3/32 of an inch and were generally spaced 3/8 of an inch from ridge to ridge on each side of the grooves. We think this is a piece of one of the stones found at the top or bottom of a pilaster; of which there were 30, or a window sill, of which there were 47 on the original Nauvoo Temple. (Nauvoo Temple: A Story of Faith by Don Colvin)
We have previously had several "building block" pieces of the temple that were from the exterior walls or very small chunks but this piece is thinner and has extensive tooling that was to be seen by observers of the temple. Item #41103
Price: $15,000.00
