Acts, Resolutions and Memorials Passed by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Utah, During the Twelfth Annual Session, for the Years 1862-63
Great Salt Lake City: Elias Smith, Public Printer, 1863. Pamphlet. 15 pp. Blue printed wraps. Small stain on front cover that partially obscures part of the title; light moisture staining to bottom half of pamphlet throughout.
One of the best ways to determine the pulse of a government is look at what legislation is being passed. This particular session of the territorial legislature certainly reflected the growing tensions of the Civil War with a lengthy act regarding the safety of the telegraph line (completed just the previous year). On a similar note, the assembly also drafted a memorial to Congress requesting mail service. The short-lived Pony Express-while earing a spot in the collective memory-had been a financial nightmare. In local matters, the body also moved the county seat of Washington County from Washington to St. George. Condition: Very good. Item #37623
