David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism

Salt Lake City: University of Utah Press, 2005. First printing. Hardcover/dust jacket. 490 pp. Signed by both authors.

This landmark history of the presidency of David O. McKay was made possible due to the voluminous office diaries kept by Clare Middlemiss, aunt of co-author Bob Wright. The authors combined this essential source with hours of interviews and oral histories to craft a fascinatingly candid portrait of McKay's administration. As reviewer Gary Bergera summarized, "Prince carefully tracks in considerable, but always fascinating, detail the sometimes tumultuous trajectory of a relatively young church standing nervously on the threshold of a modern world." Clearly one of the most important books of the last quarter-century. Signed by both authors--Wright (who was already in poor health when the book was published) passed away in 2012. New. Item #30221
