Hymn Singing Festival: Salt Lake Tabernacle, January 18, 1951, 8:00 p.m. : Congregation and Special Choir Participating in a Demonstration of the Many Uses of the New Latter-day Saint Hymn Book

[Salt Lake City]: General Music Committee, 1951. Wraps. 55 pp. (Pages 11-55, 42 hymns from the 1948 hymn book). President J. Reuben Clark, Jr. - Speaker; J. Spencer Cornwall - Conductor; Alexander Schreiner and Frank W. Asper, Organists.
After the immediately-disliked 1948 hymnal was released, plans were quickly made to revise it (see Hymns, #37142).
When the new hymnal was released in 1951, the General Church Music Committee organized a huge hymn singing festival to both commemorate the publication and emphasize the new features. Attendees were arranged in the Salt Lake Tabernacle by voice parts. Those in attendance received a copy of this pamphlet to take home. This was the first of at least three similar festivals—later in the year, events were held in Ogden and Provo (each with a booklet given to those in attendance). Condition: Very good. Item #25972
