Madelyn Cannon Stewart Silver: Poet, Teacher, Homemaker
Salt Lake City: Publishers Press, 1998. First printing. Hardcover/dust jacket. 331pp. Inscribed inside front cover, "For Jim and Renee Allen With admiration and appreciation for a lifetime friendship. Leonard 20 Dec. 1998." Allen was the Assistant Church Historian from 1972 to 1979. Arrington died in February of the next year.
Throughout his career, Leonard Arrington wrote histories and biographies as contract jobs from various companies and family organizations. This particular project stretched back to 1985 when Leonard met with the Silver family. He first completed a biography of Harold Silver (1992) and then turned his attention to Madelyn. By the beginning of 1996, he had completed a draft for review. Madelyn Silver was able to pack quite a lot into her too-short life: she was a poet and writer, mother of four children, teacher and patron of the arts. Arrington drew on her diaries and writings to provide a detailed look at her complex and rich life. This is a particularly fun association copy as Arrington inscribed it to his dear friend and longtime colleague, Jim Allen. Condition: Very good+. Item #21842
